The Royal Family are increasingly coming under the spot light for their 1st class or private helicopter/jet flights around the world, and whilst researching this I was reminded of a cracker of an example by Prince Charles earlier this year…
The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall flew 1st class, with their 20-strong staff in Club class, to America inorder to pick up the Harvard Club’s Global Environmental Citizen Award.
The award, presented by Meryl Streep and Al Gore, congratulates the prince on his ‘green’ efforts.
Aides insisted there were other reasons for the trip, and the prince was advised to travel by chartered flight rather than private jet to avoid any more outcry.
The £120,00 trip was financed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. And whilst the Prince may offset his carbon footprint - it’s undoubtedly better not to cause the damage in the 1st place.

I heard Prince Charles provides his staff with bicycles for cycling around London so as to be more environmentally friendly - I hope he adopts the same policy for himself where possible! Although I’m not sure how ‘possible’ it would be deemed to be…
