In the UK we love our mod cons and techno gadgets, and the 21st century has brought an almost endless supply of them, from plasma TVs to coffee makers. We are brain washed into thinking we need all the things by advertising gurus who’s job it is to spend our money for us, but it probably doesn’t even occur to most people (me included until now) how much energy each of these appliances is using. Well actually that’s not strictly true as I do worry about my bill at the end of the month, but that still wouldn’t stop me choosing one TV over another. But after reading TheGreenGuy blog, and a new report from the Energy Saving Trust, these are exactly the sorts of questions we should be asking when making our next ‘essential’ consumer purchase.
