BikeI’ve just found out about a great scheme from the government called ‘Cycle to Work’.
‘Cycle to Work’ is a tax incentive aimed at encouraging employees to, er, cycle to work, thereby reducing air pollution and improving their health.

The scheme allows employees to benefit from a long term loan of bikes and commuting equipment such as lights, locks and panniers completely tax free.

Employers benefit from fitter, more punctual, more wide-awake staff. Employees benefit from better health and better bikes because their money goes further. With a budget of, say £400, an employee in the
high tax-band can now afford a bike, plus accessories, worth nearly £800.’

Sounds good to me! I love cycling to work and if this scheme gets more people on their bikes I think it’s a great thing. Not only good for the environment, but also saves you a packet on fuel and parking charges. The more people that cycle the better as it will mean local councils will have to start taking cyclists seriously and provide decent provisions and cycle paths. In my view this country is particularly unfriendly to cyclists, (often due to roads being built before bikes were invented) but lets hope schemes like this will help
to change that!
