Easyjet claim to take their environmental responsibility very seriously, claiming that they “strive to minimise [their] carbon emissions by flying younger, cleaner, fuller planes - in fact, flying with a traditional airline (based on same route and plane type) burns 27% more emissions per passenger kilometre”. A great idea if your wardrobe needs a makeover is to track down or even have your own clothes swapping party! All you have to do is find all the things you don’t want (but you think somebody else might) then swap with your friends over a few drinks and nibbles. There are even clothes swapping events springing up all over the place, where everyone can take their old garments along and get them valued in ‘points’. You then have the equivalent points to spend on items of your choice. So you can go along with your clothes and come back with a whole new look (or somebody elses)
A great idea and coming to a town near you soon! Not only are you helping to save the environment, but also getting a good deal to boot. Here’s an article all about clothes swapping from the Telegraph website.
We love this new little product that was featured on BBC 2’s Dragons’ Den. Boils an egg to the consistency you choose without water! By stretching heating elements over the egg as the lid of the cooker is closed James Seddon managed to achieve his objective of designing a “toaster for boiled eggs”.
And, of course, to be featured in this blog it has to have a green aspect to it… Well it claims to use a fraction of the energy of boiling - and it could well do, as boiling enough water to submerge an egg in is probably quite considerable.
Eggxactly even knows the egg’s size and whether it came from the fridge. Wow! We’re impressed!
So we’re trying to cut down our carbon emissions. We’re trying to cut down on our use of fossil fuels. We’re trying to reduce the air miles concerned with our consumerism.
Well, some of us are - it seems multibillionaires have other things to think about - such as where to go in their luxury SUBMARINES!! This article by the Seattle Times discusses the craze of these $80 million toys and the secrecy and extravagance that makes them appeal. Wonder if they come in yellow….
It’s being reported today that supermarkets are being urged to stop selling outdoor patio heaters, due to their contribution to Global Warming.
Meanwhile, pubs are buying bigger/more powerful heaters in abundance, due to the smoking ban and patrons who refuse to stop smoking being forced outside.
I just had to put this on the hotonearth blog. I found this just now on the GreenGuy blog. As someone who cycles to work everyday and uses my bike quite a bit this is a bit worrying. I guess it’s what comes from living somewhere like New York where everyone minds their own business. But what a shocker! Just take a look at the bike thieves video to see what I mean.
How Can You Do Our Bit To Help Save Our Planet? Something that you must bear in mind is that these ideas do need some thought and sometimes a little bit of perseverance. If some of them aren’t practical to your circumstances, just remember that the important thing is to do your best – do what you can!
Since starting this site, I’m still really surprised when people are skeptical about global warming. Maybe people will always (and often rightly so) feel compelled to take a view which goes against popular belief, even if just to be different. There are some interesting points though and reading this debate shows how there are many people who just don’t follow the GW doctrine.
To give you some ideas how you can make a quick attempt to start offsetting your carbon footprint for free, we’ve put together a few scenarios to help you see how easy it is to do your bit for the environment and offset some of your carbon footprint.
