Walking past neighbours bins yesterday I couldn’t help but notice all the packaging from Christmas presents - juice makers and the such that come in big boxes. So if your bin day has been postponed until next week because of Bank Holidays, then you’ve still got time to retrieve all your cardboard from the binliners and head down to your nearest household waste recycling centre.

I know those of us in cities may not have one on our doorstep - or at the other end of the scale those of us out in the sticks may have a trek too - but if you could bring yourself to pop out on Saturday morning you can spend the rest of the weekend feeling happy that you made an effort for the Environment!

What you do leave out for the bin men, put in eco friendly bags - such as these.

RecyclingSo you sort out all your recycling, and separate your food waste into the caddy liners you buy from the council… but you’re left with big nasty bin liners for your un-recyclable waste.
However, Addis have released BioSense biodegradable drawstring bin bags, available in packs of ten in various sizes - which sound like a good start. Good Housekeeping claim they’re available from Robert Dyas but we couldn’t find them on the website just yet… check back soon though - and ofcourse buy them through HotonEarth to help the environment twice with one effort!
One major problem we’ve noticed however is that the bags claim to break down into water, organic residue and - you guessed it - Carbon Dioxide - in around three years. Hmm - we’ve emailed Addis to get further information on the ‘greater good’ of these bags.

RecyclingThis a completely personal rant, but I find it insane that my local ‘Household Waste Recycling Centre’ has bins for paper, card, cans etc etc - right through to spectacles, mobile phones and ink cartridges - but no where for plastic bags/bin liners!!! And how do you take your recycling to the centre if you don’t have suitably sized boxes?!

There is outcry being publicised yet again on the news at people’s disgust at their rubbish only being collected once every 2 weeks to encourage recycling.
People claim the refuse that accumulates between collections creates a foul stench and can encourage rats.
