4.1 To join the Big Green Directory a reciprocal link to HotonEarth must be in place on your website for your submission to be approved.
4.2 Reciprocal links will be monitored, and removal of the link may constitute the removal of your entry from the Directory.
4.3 Using your link back to HotonEarth we will monitor to the best of our ability the volume of traffic you send to the site. High volumes will result in your entry in the Directory being placed higher in the list.
4.4 HotonEarth reserve the right to decline a submission to the Directory if we feel the business suggested is insufficiently 'green' or concerned with environmental affairs.
5.1 The Carbon Calculator on HotonEarth allows individuals to calculate the approximate amount of carbon Dioxide /C02 they emit in a year.
5.2 Even just the process of filling in your details can highlight to you where you are going wrong – if you find you are entering 3 flights to Australia and 2 to New York as an annual average for your aviation travel, you may realise you should try and cut this down!
5.3 To make the Calculator effective, but not overly complicated or long winded, we have simplified many aspects - for example, we have not included every kind of heating possible.
5.4 The result given by our Carbon Calculator is based largely on averages and is intend to give an idea of your carbon footprint – not an exact reading; it is to be used as a tool to learn from.
5.5 We have studied the calculations and results of many experts in the field of Carbon emissions and climate change to collate the data used by our Carbon Calculator. However, this can not guarantee its accuracy, as this area of research is constantly under debate and evolving, whilst our knowledge and understanding is continuously expanding.
5.6 It is important to remember that as a consumer we contribute to emissions through ‘embedded’ energy also, through the production of the packaging of the goods we buy, or the transportation of our food. Whilst we include these factors in our ‘Bonus Points’ scheme, it is impossible to incorporate these results accurately into our Carbon Calculator as most, if not all, individuals will not know the extent of their emissions in this area.
5.7 It’s also worth noting that this Calculator only concerns itself with Carbon Dioxide – other green house gases are also emitted and cause damage to the environment, but we can not cover these in detail here. However, by taking heed of your results from our Carbon Calculator, you can help cut your emission of all greenhouse gases.
